EagleEye – Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) System

Overview

The EagleEye System is state of the art Vehicle and Driver monitoring system which can be used for various purposes like security monitoring, access control, fraud detection etc. The system consist of 3 main elements; The Automatic Number Plates Recognition (ANPR) System, Driver Photography and Database software.

The EagleEye System includes Hardware, Software as well as hardware interface for management and control. The hardware components are designed to provide optimal performance and reliability. The peripheral hardware components are also selected and configured to provide easy of operation and management of the entire system.

Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)

Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system used in the EagleEye automatically identifies the vehicles number plate and gives it to the software system.

The system uses illumination (Infra-red) and a camera to take the image of the front or rear of the vehicle, then image-processing software analyzes the images and extracts the plate information. This data is used for enforcement, data collection, and (as in the access-control system featured) can be used to open a gate if the car is authorized or keep a time record on the entry or exit for automatic payment Calculations.

The EagleEye systems significant advantage is that the system can keep an image record of the vehicle which is useful in order to fight crime and fraud. Additionally, this technology does not need any installation per car (such as in all the other technologies that require a transmitter added on each car or carried by the driver).

Automatic Driver Photography

In addition to having an ANPR system, the driver of the vehicle can be automatically photographed using a high speed, high resolution digital camera and illumining device.

This Automatic Driver photography camera is triggered in tandem with the ANPR system and images are fed back to the software which takes the multiple snaps of the approaching vehicle. Using sophisticated image processing, filters accepts the best image resolution while rejecting the others.

Database Software

The Software forms the heart of the EagleEye system. It is based on the client server model with support for Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server database support.

The software process the images capture by ANPR and High Resolution Camera for driver photography. It contains sophisticated image processing engine which intelligently recognizes the best image from an image capture cycle and performance automatic extraction of required image data i.e. the Number plate of the vehicle and store the entire data in the database.

While storing of the data of a vehicle and its driver is not the sole purpose of implementing EagleEye, the software can be customized to the users need to incorporate many other features.

Once active the EagleEye system software can provide search on several fields.

	Part plate
	Time
	Date
	Category
	Notes added to image file

Further functions that could be used are:

	Counting vehicles in and out of premises, leaving a list of all vehicles on site.
	The length of time a vehicle is on site.
	Vehicle speed (from two cameras).
	Driver names can be associated with number plates and access allowed or denied to certain areas.
